Christine Hill

student recitals

Christine Hill Music Studios presents voice students in two summer recitals at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 17 and 3 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 18 at the First United Methodist Church, on the corner of 2nd Street and Broadway in Aberdeen. The recitals are free and open to the public.

Those performing on Saturday evening include: Ken Albert, Libby Carrico, Elaina Diaz, Chris Fruto, Steve Jacobson, Hannah Mareth, Tara Mareth, Dustyn Moir and Quentin Sotomish.

Those performing on Sunday afternoon include: Ken Albert, Kyle Brewer, Kendall Cavin, Michael Fagerstedt, Cora Foss, Susan Foss, Laura Hill, Seth Hollen, Keola Holt, Dustin Jones, Amanda Lynch, Ken McDonald, Haley Raines, Vickie Raines and Joey Wakeman.

Sports card and collectibles show

On Saturday, Aug. 17 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., vendors that attend the Twin Oaks Shows in Seattle and Portland will be selling and buying cards at the SouthShore Mall. Mariner, Seahawks and many more will be available.

This is the only card show in the Grays Harbor area for the year.

Westport

Westport Art Festival

On Saturday, Aug. 17, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Sunday, Aug. 18 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., over 80 craft, art, dining booths and several kid-friendly activities open in Westport.

For the first time Corvettes of Grays Harbor is hosting a “Vette’s at the Marina” event from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m featuring a corvette show. Registration begins at 9 a.m. and costs $20.

“Pirates on the Harbor”

On Saturday, Aug. 17 between 7 and 8 p.m., join the Dance Club of Grays Harbor for a mixer, dance demos, refreshments and a free salsa dance lesson at the Hoquiam Masonic Temple on the corner of 8th and K Street. Live music will be provided by Katzenjammer. Beginners, singles and couples are welcome. Admission for the 8 p.m. dance is $7 for members and $10 for non-members of the club. Harbor Art Guild celebrates fifth year

Harbor Art Guild and Six Rivers Gallery commemorate their first five years with a Fifth Anniversary Show featuring art works by HAG members, Aug. 9 – Oct. 6. To celebrate the occasion, a gala reception will be held Sunday, Aug. 18, 1 to 5 p.m., and includes a barbecue, music and auction items.

Artists being shown include: Fran Allen, Fred Calica, Nancy Eichenberger, Kathleen F. Graddy, Mary Lou Gregory, Robin Harlow, Ken Hunt, Gary Douglas Lennon, Donna Miller, Robin Moore, R.P. Myers, Ed Schroll, Barb Shillinger and Lee Staley.

5th annual Jimmy

Buffett Tribute

All Parrot Heads, those with a love of Jimmy Buffett tunes, can find their lost shaker of salt in Ocean Shores on Saturday, Aug. 17 at 6 p.m. at the Elks Lodge, 199 Ocean Lake Way.

This 5th annual Jimmy Buffett summertime tribute, which is open to the public, is part of an annual membership drive for the Elks Lodge.

Providing live Trop-Rock music for the first time at the event is The Dave Roberts Band. All are invited to wear their favorite tropical shirts — tacky or otherwise — flip-flops and other assorted Parrot Head paraphernalia. A donation of $15 includes our own “Cheeseburger in Paradise,” salad and key lime tart.

Anchor Family Movie

Night showing

Anchor Family Movie Night is on Friday, Aug. 23 at Miller Junior High Track. Bring your own blankets, chairs and snacks. This free event will show “Despicable Me,” which starts at dusk, under the stars. There will be games and prizes starting at 7:30 p.m.

Driftwood announces 2013-2014 season

The Driftwood Players of Aberdeen have announced their 2013-2014 season schedule.

The season opens in September with “The Rocky Horror Show,” made famous by the 1970s motion picture, from Sept. 14 through Oct. 6, including a midnight performance on Sept. 28 in addition to that night’s regularly scheduled show.

Tickets for the upcoming shows are $15 and will be available online starting in August. Go to www.aberdeendriftwood.com and print out your ticket. Season ticket packages (four or five shows) are also available online. Tickets can also be purchased at Valu Drug in Montesano, Harbor Drug in Hoquiam, Delores’ and Fay’s in Ocean Shores, Top Foods and City Center Drug in Aberdeen.
