Grays Harbor residents Michael (Mickey) and Kathy Simpson celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a dinner party on Aug. 11, hosted by their children, their spouses and grandchildren, at the Mazatlan restaurant in Aberdeen.
Mickey Simpson married Kathy Kantner on Aug. 11, 1962, in Des Moines.
The couple has made their home on the Johns River for the past 43 years.
Simpson has worked for the phone company, Xerox Corp., and even raised fishing worms at their farm. In 2008 he retired from Grays Harbor Transit.
His wife worked at the Westport Bowling Alley, and as a teacher’s aide. She owned a cake-decorating business and a Persian Cattery where she and her husband were flown on occasion to groom the Oakley (sunglasses) family cats. She also traveled to numerous cat shows with her Persian cats.
The Simpsons also hosted a foreign exchange student; were 4-H leaders and also owned and operated Simpson’s Suds-N-Scissors and the Simpson’s Twin City Flower and Feed Store that use to sit in the current location of Wal-Mart.
They enjoy their farm, traveling and spending time with their family.
The Simpsons have six children. They also have 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
