The public is invited to participate in a community tradition to bring in the Yule Log at Schafer State Park at 1 p.m. today. The yule log tradition goes far back in history and has been celebrated by many cultures. It was started as a community event at Schafer State Park more than 50 years ago and is co-hosted by the State Park Staff and Friends of Schafer and Lake Sylvia.
Children will hunt for the special log in the park and everyone will join together to pull it back to the fire in the community hall.
Organizers will provide hot beverages, a warm fire and Christmas music. Participants are asked to bring a plate of cookies to share.
Schafer State Park is in Mason County, approximately 12 miles north of Elma on the East Fork of the Satsop River.
