This football season, players at Aberdeen and Hoquiam high schools are in competition, in the kitchen, that is.
The Aberdeen Quizno’s restaurant is hosting a sandwich fundraising competition between the two schools for the entirety of the football season. Ten percent of the proceeds from the sales of the sandwiches will go directly to the sandwich host’s team.
Hoquiam’s sandwich, “the Grizzly” includes: white bread, zesty grille sauce, mayo, prime rib, cheddar cheese, bacon, spices, tomato and red onion. As of Wednesday afternoon, they had sold 23 of the meaty sandwiches.
Aberdeen’s sandwich, “the Bobcat Sack-Attack” includes: rosemary parmesan bread, chipotle mayonnaise, ranch dressing, chicken, bacon, cheddar cheese, spices, lettuce, tomato, red onion and pepper rings. As of Wednesday afternoon, 15 of the sandwiches had been sold.
“I think it’s too early to tell (who will sell the most),” said Quizno’s owner, Mike Barkstrom. “Both teams are aggressive and trying hard.” As to the reason behind the competition, Barkstrom said, “It’s just our way to say thanks and help the teams out.”
