Pastor Kathryn Garnett of the Hoquiam United Methodist Church has announced the sanctuary will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday for anyone wanting to pray for the situation in Syria.
“Roman Catholic Pope Francis has spoken strong words of condemnation for the use of chemical weapons in Syria, expressing clearly his personal sorrow and the inevitable judgment of both God and history upon such action,” Pastor Garnett said. “He has invited all people of the world to spend Saturday, Sept. 7, in fasting and to pray for peace in Syria.
“This invitation is to all members of our community of any faith, or who profess no particular faith, who wish to come together in support of peace for our world.”
All Catholic churches in western Grays Harbor County will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The church is located at 516 5th St. in Hoquiam.
