GHC student club raises money for youth shelter

Members of Grays Harbor College’s Human Service Club have been raising funds to support the Grays Harbor Youth Shelter and collected enough supplies to last the shelter three months. The student club collected and purchased necessary items such as blankets, pillows, socks, healthy snack foods and personal supplies to be used by youth staying at the shelter in Aberdeen and those helped through outreach efforts.

Elena Mettler was chairwoman of the committee; members include Stephanie Hollandsworth, Jessica Barragan, Cher Keller, Stephanie Becker, Vanessa Cree, Victor Sawyer, Robert Hawks and Kathy Voshell. Chandra Miller-Starks is the program instructor and club adviser.

The club made a point of thanking students at Stevens Elementary School, the Dennis Co., Twin Star Credit Union and Dollar Tree, as well as college faculty, staff and students for their participation, Mettler said.
