The Hoquiam Business Association will kick off the holiday season Saturday with Ho Ho Hoquiam, an event for the whole family.
The day kicks off in the morning with the Ho Ho Hoquiam Dash starting at the 7th St. Theatre. There will be a 2-mile walk and 2-mile, 5k and 10k runs.
Participants can purchase a shirt for $20, or participate without a shirt for $5. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. and the race will begin at 10 a.m. The run is sponsored by Herbig Jewelers and the Darrin Moir Family.
At 11 a.m., the Hoquiam Development Association will sponsor “Santa Comes to Hoquiam” at Central Elementary School. Children will receive a free photo with Santa. Parents are encouraged to bring their own camera as well. There will be bike and gift raffles, and every child will receive a goodie bag.
At 4 p.m., Hoquiam businesses will be gearing up for the Cocoa Stroll and Festival of Trees, an event in its second year. Shoppers should register at the 7th St. Theatre, where they will pick up their voting sheet and free hot cocoa sponsored by 7-Eleven. Participants will stroll around to participating businesses, viewing the trees that each business has decorated and voting for their favorites. The first 100 participants to register that day will receive a collectible “Ho Ho Hoquiam 2012” ornament in addition to a free pass to the movie “Elf” showing at the 7th St. Theatre at 7:30 later that night.
At 7 p.m. there will be a tree lighting ceremony at the corner of 7th and J streets at the Grays Harbor Transit Station. Join the Hoquiam High School Choir to sing Christmas carols to welcome the holiday season.
Tickets for the movie are $5 for adults and $3 for children.
