New or slightly used sweaters can be donated from Oct. 1 through Veterans Day at Harrison Family Mortuary in Aberdeen as part of the nationwide Operation Sweaters for Veterans initiative. Through Nov. 12, the mortuary located at 311 W. Market St., is collecting the sweaters and gloves to be delivered to local Veterans Administration hospitals, homes and veterans services organizations as a way to honor the anniversary of the Armistice that ended the first World War.
Harrison Mortuary is joining with more than 1,000 Veterans & Family Memorial Care Providers in sponsoring the annual sweaters program. It also is the official Cell Phones for Soliders drop-off center, collecting old cell phones that can be recycled and converted into free phone minutes for members of the military overseas.
