SMILES FOR LIFE: New Affordable Preventive Oral Health Program is here in Aberdeen known as the Senior Center Dental Access Program. This new program gives you tips on how to keep your teeth for a lifetime. Future Clinics will usually be the first & third Thurs. of the month. The services provided are Dental Assessment (including oral cancer screening), Dental Cleanings (routine and periodontal), Fluoride Applications, Oral Health Education and Referrals to Dental and Medical Providers. These are provided at no or low cost. Find out if you are eligible for Grant Funding. Also Medicaid Insurance, Private Dental Insurance and Fee for Service accepted. GRIEF SUPPORT GROUP: Are you grieving, and having feelings of sorrow, remorse, depression or just do not know what you are feeling after the death of a loved one? PARKINSON’S SUPPORT GROUP: Meets the last Tuesday of the month, 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., at the Hoquiam Library downstairs meeting room, 420 7th St. The next meeting is scheduled for Oct. 29th. This is a support group for those with Parkinsons Disease and their caregivers to share common experiences, suggestions for exercise and diet, resource ideas, and enjoy companionship. SENIOR COMPANION PROGRAM: The YMCA Senior Companion Program would like to announce that the program has volunteers available to provide services for most areas of Grays Harbor and northern Pacific Counties. Senior Companions provide one-on-one support services for individuals who may be lonely, and/or need assistance with activities to enhance continued independent living in their homes or apartments. Services are provided to individuals 18 years or older, with no income guidelines to qualify, no service fees and length of time for participating in the program. Activities addressed by volunteers can be reading/writing correspondence, recordkeeping activities, and socialization activities for those who are homebound or have difficulty getting out. Volunteers also provide exercise activities, limited transportation for essential errands, such as grocery shopping and local medical appointments and advocacy in obtaining necessary services to promote independence. One of the primary services provided is weekly respite care for homebound individuals living with family caregivers who may need a break for themselves. HARBORS HOME HEALTH & HOSPICE FOOT CLINIC: For Seniors or other persons unable to reach or care for their own feet there are foot clinics throughout Grays Harbor and Pacific Counties at various times and locations. SHIBA: Open enrollment for Medicare prescription drug plans begin October 15th. Now is the time to ensure your prescription drug coverage for 2014 is the best available option. During the first phase of this Medicare Part D enrollment period, a Statewide Health Insurance Benefits Advisor will be available at the North Beach Senior Resource Center (Ocean Shores United Methodist Church), 557 Point Brown Ave. NW, on Thursday, Oct. 17th, 24th and 31st from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to assist you and answer any questions you may have. Statewide Health Insurance Benefits Advisors are available to answer your health care coverage needs. If you have questions about insurance paperwork — billing, coverage, costs, and benefits — we can help. We can provide you with options for your Medicare health insurance options, whether they be supplemental insurances, Medicare advantage plans, or DSHS programs that help defer these costs.
