CHRONIC PAIN SELF-MANAGEMENT WORKSHOP: Coastal Community Action Program (CCAP), in collaboration with The Olympic Area Agency on Aging, has scheduled a FREE Workshop open to the public: Living Well with Chronic Pain. This workshop will be held one day a week (Thursdays, 2.5 hours, 9:30 a.m. to noon) for six consecutive weeks beginning Oct. 10, 2013 and continuing Oct. 17, 24, 31, Nov. 7 with the last class ending on a Friday Nov. 15th in Aberdeen, WA at 117 E. 3rd. in the downstairs meeting room. Two specifically trained leaders will facilitate the workshop. This program was developed by Stanford University for people who have primary or secondary diagnoses of chronic pain and is designed to give participants the skills and confidence in their ability to manage their health and maintain active, fulfilling lives. Subjects covered include: (1) techniques to deal with problems such as frustration, fatigue, isolation and poor sleep; (2) appropriate exercise for maintaining and improving strength, flexibility and endurance; (3) appropriate use of medications; (4) communicating effectively with family, friends, and health professionals: (5) nutrition; (6) pacing activity and rest and (7) how to evaluate new treatments. The goal of the program is to help you live a healthy life with your chronic pain by managing your symptoms. Space for the workshop is limited so please register early. SMILES FOR LIFE: New Affordable Preventive Oral Health Program is here in Aberdeen known as the Senior Center Dental Access Program. This new program gives you tips on how to keep your teeth for a lifetime. Future Clinics will usually be the first & third Thurs. of the month. The services provided are Dental Assessment (including oral cancer screening), Dental Cleanings (routine and periodontal), Fluoride Applications, Oral Health Education and Referrals to Dental and Medical Providers. These are provided at no or low cost. Find out if you are eligible for Grant Funding. Also Medicaid Insurance, Private Dental Insurance and Fee for Service accepted. MEDICAL EQUIPMENT: The Coalition of Services Medical Equipment Closet, sponsored by the North Beach Senior Resource Center, is now operating. If you are in need of medical equipment, such as commodes, walkers, raised toilet seats, wheelchairs, etc. please call (360)289-3352 or (360) 289-0201. The Coalition will also accept donations of equipment. Also, the Thurston County Council on Aging is sponsoring a medical supply/equipment bank, offering, free of charge, the loan of supplies such as wheelchairs, walkers, hospital beds, bedside commodes, canes, crutches, etc. to help in your recuperation. Also, they accept donations of medical equipment to be provided in the loan process. All donations are kept within the program and greatly appreciated. GRAYS HARBOR P.U.D. DISCOUNT PROGRAM: The P.U.D. has designed a discount program to assist Senior and Disabled Citizens with their energy costs. HOME CARE REFERRAL REGISTRY: The Home Care Referral Registry serves consumers/clients receiving in-home care services through the Department of Social and Health Services or those on the COPES (Community Options Program Entry System) program. They are also helping clients receiving services through the Division of Developmental Disabilities find the right Individual Provider. The Referral Registry matches pre-qualified, pre-screened, individual providers with Medicaid eligible clients who need in-home care services.
