Parents who would like to have their child assessed for early entry into school in the Hoquiam School District should contact Lincoln Elementary at 538-8250.
Students need to be 5 years old on or before Aug. 31, 2013, for entry into kindergarten and 6 years old for entry into first grade. This increases the likelihood that students will have developed the maturity to successfully meet rigorous state and district academic standards, school officials say. Occasionally, students with fall birthdays who miss the cut-off date appear to demonstrate advanced social, physical, communication and cognitive skills and could qualify for early entry.
Testing for early entry will be held on May 31. The testing fee is $75, with a reduced fee for low-income families.
