Mock election gets the vote of school children

Students too young to cast official ballots can vote online through the week of Monday, Oct.28 and are able to see the results the afternoon of Friday, Nov. 1 in the state mock election, the secretary of state’s website says. Grades 6-12 vote on measures and candidates that appear on the actual ballot voters use. Younger students may vote on more age appropriate versions of the ballot.

Sample ballots, voter guides, “I Voted” stickers and curriculum books for educators are available online free of charge. The process includes information about the state’s vote by mail system. Students can register and vote in one sitting, no personal data is recorded or distributed.

Results are posted online Friday after 1 p.m. The web address is found at the office of secretary of state, http://www.sos.wa.gov/elections/mock/
