Mayor Simpson hopes changes at top might save local JC Penney

Aberdeen Mayor Bill Simpson, a former 30-year employee for the local J.C. Penney’s store in SouthShore Mall, hopes changes at the top of the company might save the local store from closure, which is scheduled in August.

But he is trying to rally some support.

“The mayors of Grays Harbor County just sent a letter off to Myron Ullman,” Simpson said of J.C. Penney’s former CEO, was tapped earlier this week to come back to help right the ship. “If anyone can save J.C. Penney’s, he will.

Simpson didn’t know if it would help save the local store, but he figured it couldn’t hurt.

“It will be as tough one,” he said of trying to keep the local store open. “I just don’t know what’s going to happen with that.”
