Aberdeen Fire recently received funding from the Sierra Pacific Foundation to buy two new portable radios. The department was awarded $1,526 for the purchase and programming of the radios. Originally, the grant funds were to be used to replace aging radios, but four radios were recently stolen from a vehicle during an emergency response and the new radios will serve as replacements. One radio was recovered by a citizen who bought it after noticing the department’s name on it.
“We are thankful to be able to have a public-private partnership with a company like Sierra Pacific who cares about the safety of the public,” Aberdeen Fire said in a press release.
The department also received funding from the foundation for radios in 2011.
