Aberdeen Police investigate care fire

A 28-year-old Aberdeen woman with a no-contact order against her ex-husband found the interior of her car had been gutted by fire from a traffic flare Wednesday night in what police believe might be part of an ongoing domestic dispute.

The woman, who lives in the 2600 block of Bay Avenue, found the car burned when she went outside to the car with her 4-year-old daughter, police said. Damage was estimated to be $1,800.

“She came out to her car and noticed that the windows were darker than usual,” said Aberdeen Police Capt. John Green. “When she goes to put her daughter in a car seat, she finds the front passenger window was shattered with a fist-size hole.”

Some of the items in the back of the car had burned and there was heavy smoke residue inside. Green said it appeared the incendiary device was a flare.

The woman reported a similar incident on April 29 when it appeared some sort of accelerant was put under her car, a 1998 Honda Accord, and set on fire, Green said. No damage was reported in that incident.
