MONTESANO — Grays Harbor Auditor Vern Spatz says he has throat cancer and plans to undergo treatment over the next few months.
Spatz said the cancer is particularly surprising to him because he doesn’t smoke and is a light drinker.
“The doctor says the cancer is treatable and those factors will definitely help me,” Spatz said. Spatz says he has no plans to resign and he’s still considering running for re-election next year. He says the treatment may take him out of the office for a few days here and there, but says he has a “great staff that is perfectly capable of running the office when I’m gone.”
“I’m grateful for all of the support I’m receiving,” Spatz said.
County Commissioner Frank Gordon asked for public prayers for Spatz during their county commissioner meeting Monday afternoon.
