A body was been found on a service road adjacent to the railroad tracks near the intersection of Alder and State streets in Aberdeen on Friday afternoon.
No obvious signs of homicide were detected at the scene, although police are not yet able to determine a possible cause of death for the man. An autopsy will be scheduled for early next week, according to Detective Sgt. Art Laur.
The Aberdeen Police and Aberdeen Fire departments responded to a “man down” call after the body was found by a passerby just after 1 p.m. Friday near some large industrial pipes.
The area is known to attract transients and homeless people, law enforcement said.
Upon their arrival, it was determined that the male subject was deceased, Laur said.
The man appeared to be in his late 50s.
Hoquiam Police assisted Aberdeen detectives with the use of a special laser system for measuring crime scenes. The lasers allow for extremely precise measurements to help map out the scene and allow for computer printouts of what is found.
Officers were on scene Friday for about four to five hours.
