An Aberdeen police officer was involved in a brief, high-speed car chase Wednesday night with a driver who was spotted driving recklessly through town, police said Thursday.
The incident started at 8:13 p.m., when a police officer on traffic patrol in the 500 block of Wishkah Street saw a white car with expired tags make a rapid turn onto Michigan Street. Police said the driver then crossed Heron Street and almost hit a car.
The officer turned on his lights and tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver turned down an alley next to the Daily World building. The man continued down the alley and turned northbound on Alder Street. Police said speeds reached 50 mph while the driver was going down residential streets. When the driver turned the wrong way down Wishkah Street, the officer called off the pursuit.
No further information has been released about the suspect or the vehicle.
