The Aberdeen School Board appointed a new member to their board on Thursday, to fill the slot left open this summer by the sudden death of another board member.

Christi Boora, mental health counselor, parent and 1990 graduate of Aberdeen High School was selected. Boora said she is grateful and humbled by the board’s decision.

“I really feel honored to be chosen out of a prominent, respectable group of people,” she said.

Boora holds a master’s degree in counseling psychology and has a long history working with school age children, both professionally and during her volunteer activities with local charities. She and her husband, Jim, have two children who attend schools in Aberdeen.

Boora said it was unfortunate that the death of Jeff Snell was what opened a seat on the board, but that she has “a great deal of respect for the Snell family,” and hopes to “continue a small part of his legacy of by helping the community.”

Boora said on the school board her primary goal, “first and foremost is to advocate for the students.” Secondly, she wants to advocate for teachers and make sure the school system is fiscally sound.
