The state Department of Ecology is looking for public comments regarding a new oil spill response plan for Grays Harbor.
The new plan has been in the works since 2009 and isn’t intended to address crude-by-rail projects proposed by Westway Terminal Company, Imperium Renewables and U.S. Development.
“This process was set in motion before those facilities were even talked about,” said Linda Kent, a spokeswoman for the Department of Ecology.
The new plan is part of a series of updates to the statewide oil spill response system, Kent said. Changes will provide responders with more information about staging areas, boat launches, personnel and the different types of equipment needed for varying sizes and types of oil spills. The plan is more general than specific.
“It’s really difficult to create a plan that covers everything,” Kent said. “And situations are constantly changing.”
