The Vick family of Cosmopolis was surprised to find themselves the winner of a 1967 Harley Davidson DKG — also known as a “Pan-Shovel” or a “generator shovel”— after entering a television sweepstakes in February.
Restored by the Gas Monkey Garage of the Discovery Channel’s show “Fast N’ Loud,” the bike— nicknamed Fred by people on the show — won second place in a 2012 Biker Build Off between a who’s who of cable reality shows — the Gas Monkey Garage, Jessie James, Orange County Choppers and Paul Jr. Designs. The hosts were looking for an unrestored FLH Generator Shovelhead, and found it at the biker museum, Biker Rags.
Alicia Vick entered her husband, Kevin, in the sweepstakes and was surprised not only to win, but that the television annoucement that named them as the winners came on their 22nd wedding anniversary and Kevin’s 43rd birthday.
“I kept on telling him he was gonna win because it was his birthday,” said Vick, joking that she has always felt like she may be “a little bit psychic.”
The couple had a pink and white custom decorative nob for the bike’s “sucide shift jockey clutch” made by Cosmopolis’ Opal Art Glass. They plan to show the bike at motorcycle shows, and to display it alongside a card with the bike’s history.
