A Department of Corrections officer assisting the Grays Harbor County Drug Task Force chased a suspect in several vehicle thefts three blocks in South Aberdeen on Tuesday before taking him into custody, according to the Aberdeen Police Department.
Officer Nick Kiser was helping the Grays Harbor County Sheriff’s Office in following up on several thefts at about 11 a.m. Tuesday.
He went to a home in the 1000 block of West Cushing Street looking for a 42-year-old Aberdeen man, the same home where another suspect in a car theft was arrested earlier that morning.
Kiser confirmed a red Toyota pickup truck in the house’s driveway was reported stolen from Westport and called for help. Before any backup arrived, the man came out of the house, recognized the DOC officer and took off running, Capt. John Green reported.
After a three-block foot chase, Kiser caught up with the suspect and detained him, and the Sheriff’s office and Aberdeen Police arrived to arrest the man.
He was booked into the City of Aberdeen Jail on unrelated Aberdeen warrants.
