Elma man dies in head-on crash on Highway 101

An 80-year-old Elma man died in a head-on crash Saturday morning on Highway 101 about nine miles north of Raymond and a 38-year-old Raymond was injured.

Phillip E. Roberts, 80, was driving a 2012 Chevrolet southbound when it crossed the center line and struck a car driven by James Edward Lev of Raymond, the State Patrol said. Roberts died at the scene. Lev, driving a 2008 Chevrolet pickup, was taken to Willapa Harbor Hospital. His condition was not immediately available Saturday evening.

Both cars were total losses, the Patrol said. The Patrol and the Raymond Fire Department responded to the crash, which happened about 11:15 a.m.

A third car, driven by Cirilo Lopez, 48, of Raymond, was traveling behind Roberts’ car and struck it. Lopez’ car was able to be driven from the accident scene.
