Escapee re-arrested after trying to pawn handcuffs

Aberdeen Police say a transient facing theft charges managed to escape from a corrections officer Tuesday only to be re-arrested after he tried to pawn his handcuffs at a local pawn shop.

The suspect, a 43-year-old Aberdeen man, had been brought to the city jail on an outstanding theft and trespassing complaint. After his handcuffs had been removed, the suspect was released, but it was later found the handcuffs were missing.

A police report states a local pawn shop later called to notify officers the suspect had been in trying to pawn the handcuffs. The pawn dealer, however, kept the handcuffs.

Police then found the man and booked him into jail on charges of trafficking in stolen property.
