A South Aberdeen family was displaced Saturday after a two-alarm fire caused an estimated $100,000 in damage to their home.
Aberdeen Fire responded to the home in the 500 block of Southwest Front Street Saturday afternoon and found one bedroom of the home heavily involved in the fire.
The department had to call in off-duty firefighters to get the blaze under control; about 20 firefighters responded in all, with two engines, one from Cosmopolis Fire, a ladder truck, a command vehicle and four ambulances.
Two adults and one 15-year-old were home at the time and evacuated safely; three adults and two children live in the home and are being assisted by the Red Cross, Aberdeen Fire reported.
Four dogs and a cat escaped the home, and another cat died of smoke inhalation.
