Family of five displaced by fire

A family of five was displaced after their home was completely destroyed by fire Monday morning, according to Grays Harbor Fire District 2. No one was injured, and the Red Cross has been contacted to assist them.

Chief Leonard Johnson said firefighters responded to a report of a structure fire in the 900 block of Garden Drive just before 5 a.m. Monday. “When they arrived they found pretty heavy fire conditions in the building,” he said.

The family evacuated on their own before firefighters arrived, and the fire was under control by about 6:30 a.m.

“They were successful at stopping the fire from spreading into the attached garage,” Barnes said.

Any possessions stored there are unharmed, but Barnes said the house’s interior is a total loss largely due to heavy fire in the roof.

Crews remained on scene most of Monday to investigate the cause of the fire. A crew from the Montesano Fire Department came to assist. Barnes said there is currently no sign it was started intentionally.
