A motor lifeboat detachment from the Coast Guard station in Westport, along with a rescue helicopter from Astoria, Ore., have been deployed off the coast of Grays Harbor County to find a 56-year-old fisherman who fell over board, reportedly without a life jacket, Coast Guard officials said today.
The man fell over board some time around 1:30 a.m. off the fishing vessel Senja. Fellow crew members notified the Coast Guard. The man went into the water about eight miles west of the Queets River.
Current weather conditions in the search area are six-foot waves and five-knot winds, with a water temperature of 48 degrees.
The Coast Guard recommends that mariners wear life jackets at all times while on the water. It is much easier to have a lifejacket on than try to don one during an emergency.
