Former Aberdeen woman ordained to priesthood

Elizabeth Parshall Miller, an Aberdeen native and 1966 graduate of Aberdeen High School, was ordained to the priesthood in the American Catholic Church during a Mass at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Bellingham on Aug. 8.

She is the third woman ordained in the American Catholic Church and the second who is married. Her husband, Jack Miller, is also an ordained priest. Liz Miller, a graduate of Central Washington University, taught for 18 years in the Bellingham School District as a special education teacher. She retired in 2011.

“There is more than one Catholic Church,” said Miller. “I belong to the ‘Old Catholic’ tradition, which separated from the Roman Catholic church in the 18th century. We are a very real church with valid orders and have been around for centuries.”

The Millers will continue to serve in Lynden, where they live, and in Whatcom County.
