Former councilman Byron Hyde appointed to Hoquiam Council

Former Hoquiam City Councilman Byron Hyde was re-appointed to the council Monday night to replace Don Smith.

Smith, who represented Ward 6, had been removed in December after missing three consecutive council meetings without an excuse, a violation of a Hoquiam city ordinance.

City Administrator Brian Shay said Hyde told council members and Mayor Jack Durney that he would be willing to serve until this fall when an election will be held to fill the remainder of Smith’s term.

Hyde is a 25-year veteran on the Hoquiam Council, whose accomplishments include helping to launch the local 911 Center and pushing to renovate the Historic Train Depot.
