A 14-year-old girl, allegedly upset about being taken to the juvenile detention facility, had to be subdued and saved by police, officials said Monday.
The incident happened Friday morning when the foster parent of the girl was turning in the 14-year-old to the detention center on an arrest warrant. The woman reported that the girl jumped out of her moving vehicle and ran into the woods. She ran to a slippery embankment where there was water and mud being swept away rapidly by the current. Officers were told the girl was despondent and possibly suicidal.
A group of officers distracted the girl as another officer slowly approached up the water line. The officer held the girl until other officers could find him, and then they carried her off, away from the water line.
The girl was then taken to the juvenile center.
