Goodwill Industries will celebrate the opening of its store in Aberdeen on June 1.
The remodel of the former Michaels building is complete and the store is open now for donation drop offs. There’s a separate door for donations compared to the retail entrance. The location is at the Olympic Gateway Mall at 1103 East Wishkah Street.
The Aberdeen store hired 30 people from the Harbor, according to a press release from the store. The store is operated by Tacoma Goodwill, which has 29 stores in a 15-county service area.
The manager of the store will be Ron Warren, who has previously managed the Olympia Goodwill store and lives in Elma.
Goodwill adds to the number of existing thrift stores on the Harbor, including Salvation Army, Habitat for Humanity and some privately-owned stores. The store will try to rely on donations from the community, but may need to supplement those donations with its warehouse, Terry Hayes, CEO of Tacoma Goodwill said previously.
The grand opening is slated for 8:45 a.m. June 1 with a ribbon cutting ceremony featuring Mayor Bill Simpson. Gift cards and a 32-inch high-definition television will be given out.
Donate items during the Grand Opening weekend and receive a coupon good for a free drink from retailer Spill the Beans.
The store hours will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sundays. Reach the store at (360) 532-0209.
