Governors’ playoff bet is juicy

OLYMPIA — Gov. Chris Gregoire and Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal are have a friendly fruit wager on the Seahawks v. Falcons playoff game Sunday at the Georgia Dome.

If the Seahawks win, Deal will send a case of Georgia peaches to Gregoire. Gregoire has agreed to send a box of Washington apples to Georgia if the Falcons win.

Deal needled the Seattle fan base by noting that the roof at the Georgia Dome will put the Seahawks “at a disadvantage as they’re used to only playing in the rain.”

Although the Falcons may be 13-3 this season, Gregoire, in turn, noted that “the Falcons don’t have the best playoff record.”

“While Washington also grows some of the finest peaches found anywhere, I’ll gladly take a box from Governor Deal,” Gregoire said.

“Washington state and Governor Gregoire, I look forward to enjoying your apples,” Deal said.
