Hoder lauded for boosting Port business

Grays Harbor Port Executive Director Gary Nelson officially “deputized” Aberdeen Councilwoman Kathi Hoder at last week’s council meeting “as one of our leading marketing representatives.”

“She has gone above and beyond the call of duty,” Nelson said, noting that Hoder has led the charge in insisting the state Department of Transportation re-consider weight limits on state bridges within the city of Aberdeen.

“We have had numerous instances last year and this year that we’ve had big equipment come by and the state has closed down bridges and Kathi has jumped in the middle of it and she consistently goes over and leads the caravan into the city to make sure the customer finds his way into the Port of Grays Harbor,” Nelson told the council during a public comment period. “She’s called people in Alberta to ensure them we want their business, we need their business and would they still keep coming to Grays Harbor?”

Hoder, who owns Hoquiam Licensing, says she’s only doing what she thinks is right and has the best interest of the city at heart.
