With summer on its way, many Grays Harbor residents are looking for ways to spruce up their houses and yards. This weekend, they’ll have an opportunity to consult with local Master Gardeners and Master Builders at the annual Grays Harbor Home & Garden Show.
The event will be hosted at the Grays Harbor County Fairgrounds, where home and garden enthusiasts can wander through displays and attend demonstrations.
The event is organized by the Grays Harbor chapter of the Olympia Master Builders and the Master Gardeners of Grays Harbor County, and will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. Both admission and parking are free.
Rick Haunreiter of the Master Gardeners said his group will host about 25 vendors this year, offering goods such as garden tools, concrete benches, garden sculptures and a variety of plants. The Master Gardeners will have their own booth where those attending the show can bring in plants and ask questions.
There will also be gardening demonstrations, Haunreiter said. Terry Haney will give a presentation about gardening with disabilities, and Paul Cox will give a presentation about pruning. Children will be given a chance to participate at a booth hosted by Cassie Anore.
“It’s going to be very interesting and informational for the kids,” Haunreiter said. “They don’t grow gardens like people used to when I was a kid. So this will be a great opportunity for them.”
The Master Builders will also hold demonstrations, including one from Ross Irwin of Cabinets by Trivonna on how to shop for a new kitchen.
“For people who live in the area, it’s great because they can get advice from local experts, people who know this area,” said Stacey Genzlinger of the Master Builders.
