Honoring a friend

Angela McFall of Aberdeen gets a blood pressure reading from Blood Collection Specialist Mandy Taylor in the Puget Sound Blood Center’s collection van during the Deanna April-Johnson Memorial Blood Drive at the Hoquiam Farmer’s Market Saturday. Brooke Heikkila, who organized the event, said that it was a good way to honor her friend, who passed away last year and was treated with donated blood. “I was going to donate blood on her birthday but I couldn’t find a way to do it locally so I organized this,” she said. According to the PSBC, every two minutes there is someone in Western Washington in need of a transfusion.
