Hoquiam Council removes Smith for missing meetings

Hoquiam City Councilman Don Smith was removed from office at the end of Monday night’s regular City Council meeting for missing three consecutive meetings.

Under a Hoquiam city ordinance, a council member can be removed after three consecutive unexcused absences. The council voted unanimously Monday to enforce that ordinance and remove Smith from his position.

Smith took office last January, representing Ward 6. He replaced 25-year council veteran Byron Hyde. The council will move to replace Smith next month after advertising for potential candidates.
