Over the past three months, the Hoquiam Police Department has taken 30 reports of vehicle prowls, five of those since Tuesday.
Police are looking for potential victims of possibly several vehicle prowls. Officers responded around midnight Aug. 7 to a report of a vehicle prowl in the 800 block of 5th Street.
A 27-year-old Ocean Shores man was located nearby carrying two backpacks in the front yard of a home in the 800 block of 4th Street. He was arrested on an Aberdeen Municipal Court warrant for second-degree vehicle prowl, and later issued a citation for the same charge by Hoquiam Police.
The man’s backpacks contained several items police believe are stolen, including an iPod, a “Silver Bullet” speaker, a Bluetooth speaker, a Nintendo 3DS game, a Pentax camera and a large amount of loose change.
Police sent several pictures from the camera to area TV news stations in hopes of identifying that vicim, and received several calls from people who believed they knew the woman. Hoquiam Police contacted her and confirmed she was the victim of an unreported vehicle prowl.
Charges for possession of stolen property are pending for the man.
Anyone with information should contact Detective Sgt. Shane Krohn at 360-532-0892 ext. 102 or Detective David Blundred at ext. 109.
In June, HPD received 10 reports of vehicle prowls, 12 in July and nine so far in August.
