The Friends of Schafer and Lake Sylvia group is planning a New Year’s Day hike at Lake Sylvia on the edge of Montesano.
The two-hour tour will be led by a state park ranger, and is possible because of a grant from the State Recreation & Conservation Office, and work by the City of Montesano, the State Park, the Friends of Schafer & Lake Sylvia (FOSLS) and many other volunteers. Upgrades have been made to the trail and a ribbon cutting is planned for 1 p.m.
Refreshments will be available at the kitchen area after the hike and hikers are urged to bring cookies to share. Organizers say the event is “pet-bike-free.”
Hikers will meet at the kitchen/ main parking lot at 1 p.m.
Five Star Dealerships is providing a 15-passenger van that will take hikers to the park, leaving the Gregorian Group/ SouthShore Mall in Aberdeen at noon. To reserve a spot in the van, call 360.612.3479.
