Although they can’t officially discuss replacements until after Prosecutor Stew Menefee retires Sept. 30, the Grays Harbor Democrats expect to have their list of three candidates ready at their next meeting Oct. 3.
Party Chairman George Smylie said he invited former prosecutor and Superior Court judge Mike Spencer and current Senior Deputy Prosecutor Katie Svoboda to the organization’s September meeting after reading of their interest in a Daily World story.
“They came and addressed our group, and we are planning to have an election at our next meeting,” Smylie said.
When Menefee retires, the party will present a list of three choices for his replacement to the Grays Harbor County Commisioners within 90 days. Smylie said he expects to have a full list of three, although no third candidate has formally expressed interest yet.
The party’s next meeting is set for 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, at the Polish Club Hall, 823 W 1st St., Aberdeen.
