An Aberdeen man was hit by a school bus Tuesday while crossing Wishkah Street, but escaped serious injury.
The accident happened just after 9 p.m. on the 1200 block of E. Wishkah St. while the bus was transporting the Aberdeen High School girls volleyball team back from a game in Tumwater. When police came to the scene, they found the man laying in the road. Police looked to see if the was injured, but only found minor abrasions to his left elbow. He was further checked out by Aberdeen Fire Department paramedics then transported to Grays Harbor Community Hospital as a precaution.
Police said that the man, described as a 54-year-old transient, appeared to be intoxicated at the time of the incident. He was running across the street when he was hit, and told police he didn’t see the bus coming. The driver of the bus was not ticketed, the man received a notice of infraction for “failing to yield to traffic at other than a crosswalk.” No students or staff were injured.
