Elma FFA Poultry Science State Champions crowned at the State Puyallup Fair: Mikayla Smith, 6th individual; James Davis, 3rd individual; Lorenzo Ayala, 1st individual; Marie Geiger, 4th individual; and Melissa Hall, 7th individual. They will be joining 12 other Elma FFA State Champions to compete at the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis Oct. 23-27.
Elma FFA was crowned state FFA Poultry Science champions at the Western Washington State Fair in Puyallup on Sept. 15. Students evaluated a variety of consumer-based poultry products as a food science and consumer science inspector.
Lorenzo Ayala, Poultry Science Team captain, topped the state competition as the individual champion. Teammate James Davis earned third, Marie Geiger fourth, Mikayla Smith sixth, and Melissa Hall seventh. These members will compete at the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Oct. 23-27.
“We worked really hard and it was tough competition. It will be worth it with a big trip to National FFA Convention,” Ayala said in a press release.
The Elma FFA chapter also won third place in team competition. The team included: Connor Custis, Colby Trusty, Rylie Mansuetti, Connor Wolfe, Nate Mueller, Makalya Hill, and Mikaela Ortquist.
Members also placed twelfth in the Livestock Selection Career Development Event: Caser Cervro, Riley Mowry, Hayden Morey, Emily Kershaw, Paige Kershaw, Tiana Cox, Logan Hieronymus, Wyatt Gray, Jordan Hall, and Alecia Woodward. Blue ribbons in Public Presentations were awarded to: Paola Luna, Sarah Bowe, Alexis Estes, Sonya Lunn, Elizabeth Persell, and Tiana Cox.
