No one injured as Paddle to Quinault canoe capsizes

No one was injured when four canoes carrying tribal members for the Paddle to Quinault tipped at Queets this morning, spilling some pullers into the ocean.

Steve Robinson, a spokesman for the Quinault Indian Nation, said safety boats were present, but the canoes were close to shore when they tipped. No one needed to be rescued, and the accident, “wasn’t a big deal,” Robinson said.

About 100 canoes carrying people from all over western United States and Canada are expected to arrive at Point Grenville, located near Taholah, later this afternoon.
