An Ocean Shores police officer who is also a member of the city’s Surf Rescue team rescued a 13-year-old Federal Way girl who was in the water near the jetty Sunday afternoon.
Officer Chris Iversen was on patrol and saw the swimmer in distress about 150 feet from shore just north of the jetty, according to Ocean Shores police. Iversen activated the Surf Rescue Team and began to put on his surf rescue equipment as other team members were responding with personal watercraft.
The girl began to go under water and as other team members began to arrive Iversen entered the water and made his way out to the victim and brought her back onto shore. The victim was treated by the Ocean Shores Fire Department and taken to Grays Harbor Community Hospital. The victim, whose name was not released, had been down at the beach with family members for the weekend.
