One man killed in Ocean Shores car crash

A passenger in a vehicle involved in a suspected hit and run accident in Ocean Shores Tuesday evening has died, Ocean Shores Police said in a news release.

The man, whose name, age and residence were not disclosed, is believed to have been the passenger in a collision that occurred at about 7:30 p.m. in the 100 block of Canal Drive SE.

Police said they were called to the area after receiving reports that a passenger car had crossed over into oncoming traffic and collided with a van near Ocean Shores Elementary School. The car then fled the scene, according to occupants of the van.

A short time later, a call was received from a nearby residence requesting an ambulance for an injured man, the police report said. When police arrived, they determined the man had been a passenger in the car involved in the earlier collision, and they found the car and the driver. The passenger and the driver both were transported to Grays Harbor Community Hospital, but the passenger was pronounced dead upon arrival, the news release said.

“Speed and alcohol are suspected as possible factors contributing to the collision,” the release said.

The driver of the van was uninjured and the passenger in the van was taken to the hospital and treated and released for minor injuries.

The State Patrol and Grays Harbor Sheriff’s Office are assisting in the investigation.
