Black bears, television stars and local music will all be featured at the Grays Harbor Adventure and Travel Expo.
The event, which will be held Saturday and Sunday at the Grays Harbor County Fairgrounds in Elma, will also feature numerous vendors selling camping, fishing and hunting equipment. Attendees can also attend seminars about outdoor activities.
“We really made sure that there’s something for everybody,” said Mike Bruner, fairgrounds manager.
This is the third year the fairgrounds have hosted the expo, which Bruner said is wildly popular. About 4,000 people attended last year’s event and officials expect a similar turnout this year — especially since “Deadliest Catch” stars Edgar Hansen and Nick Mavar Jr. will make an appearance to greet fans and sign autographs.
But they’re not the only celebrities attending the event. Glenn Hall of “Hawg Quest” will appear both days and Nick Mundt of “Bone Collector” will appear Saturday.
The Northwest Record Head Mounts will also have a display at the expo — and local hunters can participate by bringing in their own trophy horns and antlers to be judged and scored.
“I think this is going to be a really popular event,” Bruner said. “It’s the first year we’re doing it, and I think it’ll be a lot of fun”
There will also be live animals at the expo. Five black bears will help handlers teach the crowd about North American bears as part of the Great Bear show. Bruner said the show is always a crowd-pleaser.
On Saturday night after the expo, there will be a vendor-appreciation banquet featuring a live performance by Humptulips, a local band.
This year’s event is sponsored by Whitney’s Auto Group, US Marine Sales, the Vaughan Company, Horns and Hooks Outdoor Adventure Magazine, Grays Harbor Tourism, House Brothers Construction and Bigfoot 93.7 FM.
Admission is $8 for adults, $5 for youths aged 6 through 13 and free for children five and younger. The expo is open from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.
