Passenger seriously injured in car collision with tree

A four door sedan left Wishkah Road and collided with a rotted tree, seriously injuring the 25-year-old male in the passenger seat early Saturday morning, Lt. Matt Stowers of the Grays Harbor Sheriff’s Department said.

The 44-year-old driver and father of the passenger was detained after the accident. A search warrant was obtained, and his blood was drawn. It is suspected alcohol may have been involved, Stowers said.

The accident was phoned in around 5:30 a.m. by a witness who saw the car leave Wishkah Road, north of Aberdeen. The car struck the tree, which went through the windshield, injuring the passenger in the face and abdomen.

Both men were taken to Grays Harbor Community Hospital by Aberdeen Fire Department ambulance. The older man, who may have had a concussion, was treated and released, Stowers reported.

His son was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where he was reported to be in serious condition late Saturday afternoon by a nursing supervisor. The father and son are from Seattle, Stowers said.
