Pedestrian hit by car Friday night

A 30-year-old Hoquiam woman was hit by a car when she leaned down to pick up a cell phone that had fallen in the middle of the street.

Hoquiam Police Sgt. Jeremy Mitchell said that the pedestrian was taken to Grays Harbor Community Hospital after complaining of shoulder and head injuries. The accident happened at about 10:20 p.m. Friday at the intersection of Lincoln and Emerson in Hoquiam.

Mitchell said that officers didn’t cite the driver and found both the pedestrian and driver equally at fault. Mitchell said that the woman was wearing darker clothing and by leaning down had left the line of sight of the driver. Meantime, the driver didn’t notice what was happening until it was too late.
