Modeled after the annual Relay for Life fundraiser, students at the “Recess for Life” event Wednesday at the Wishkah Valley School had the option of walking for two hours or participating in a series of fun events. Organizer Tove Reibel said that the event was part fundraiser for the Amercian Cancer Society and part cancer awareness education. This past winter, the school lost its beloved kindergarten teacher, Muffy Eager, to the disease. “Our community has been hit hard with cancer,” said Reibel. In all, the students raised more than $1,100 for the ACS. There are three Relay for Life events coming up soon on the Twin Harbors: the Grays Harbor event will begin May 31 at Hoquiam High School, the East Grays Harbor event will begin June 14 at the Grays Harbor County Fairgrounds and the Willapa Bay event will begin June 14 at Raymond High School.
