Road by sliding house re-opened

Aberdeen city officials are preparing to re-open Stewart Boulevard, which has been closed since Monday when a home above the road slipped off its foundation by almost two feet.

Scott Olsen, with Aberdeen Public Works, says that one lane of the road will be re-opened at the corner of Stewart and 7th Avenue. However, city crews will be keeping an eye on the home to ensure that it doesn’t slip down into the street.

“Right now, the road is safe, but we don’t want anybody driving next to the house,” Olsen said. “We may need to shut the whole road down if it gets worse. The house is in a precarious position.”

Olsen said that a couple of home owners had to detour quite a bit out of the way to get home because of the road closure.

“They had access to the garages but not easy access to their homes,” Olsen said.
