Aargh! It’s Rusty Scupper’s Pirate Daze in Westport!
Gather yer mates! A genuine pirate invasion is coming this weekend during the 11th annual Rusty Scupper’s Pirate Daze in Westport. As in year’s past, admission to this great event is free.
The three-day festival at the Westport Marina starts at noon, Friday, with lots of activities and entertainment. More than 60 vendors will be settin’ up their tents to offer food and wares during the festival.
Continuous daily entertainment includes the balloon-making Crocodile and pirate crews roaming the streets with music, merriment, demonstrations and inflatable amusements for children.
New this year is Capt’n Bill and the Lost Boys Pirates, who will have foam ‘Boffors’ for the kids and a small animal petting area, all down by the Port of Grays Harbor observation tower.
Friday afternoon, notorious pirate bands from all over the Pacific Northwest will start arriving to join Westport’s own Rusty Scupper Pirates. All pirate groups will arrive separately and invade the town as a noisy hoard Saturday morning at 10:45 a.m.
Pirate music will be top notch with great entertainers scheduled every day on various stages and street-side throughout the event grounds.
In keeping with the pirate theme of the festival, events scheduled during Rusty Scupper’s Pirate Daze include games and inflatables fun for the kids at Scalawag Alley, mock pirate battles in the marina, sword fighting displays and black powder fighting demonstrations, belly dancers, plus daily Treasure Chest drawings for prime booty donated by local merchants.
Enter the “Pirates of the Caribbean” Characters Look-Alike Contest on Friday evening. Saturday there will be costume contests for Pirates, Wenches and Scalawags and both professional and amateur divisions, one for vintage costumes and even a costume contest on Sunday for yer ol’ Salty Dog.
TREASURE CHEST DRAWINGS
Don’t miss out on chances to win great Pirate Daze Booty! Treasure Chest drawings will be held each day for merchandise gifts and certificates generously donated by local businesses.
Every five dollars spent at a participating merchant, you’ll receive tickets to deposit in the Treasure Chest Drawing drum near the Main Stage.
Don’t forget to be curbside along Westhaven Drive Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. to enjoy a landlubber’s Pirate Parade.
MARITIME MUSEUM and LIGHTHOUSE SPECIALS
Just $2 get you into either the Westport Maritime Museum on Westhaven Drive or the Grays Harbor Lighthouse on West Ocean Avenue if you’re dressed like a pirate. You must be in full costume to get the price break – not just a pirate hat and/or eye patch.
The museum will have a special room devoted to piratical activities for kids, including a short ‘walk the plank’ adventure that leads to some great fun.
